Gun Dealer Suspect Re-Arrested After Bold Escape from Karen Police Station

A suspect in a gun dealing case who had dramatically escaped from Karen Police Station, Nairobi, was re-arrested on Friday, August 2, in the Kasarani area.

He had fled the station as police were processing him following the discovery of a large cache of firearms and ammunition at his home.

The suspect was apprehended while attempting to evade capture and was found driving in Kasarani after a manhunt was launched. This pursuit came after he had injured an officer during his escape on the evening of August 1.

The suspect’s initial arrest occurred on August 1, when police found him with an expired firearm license. He was first detained at a restaurant in Karen, where officers discovered a range of weapons and ammunition in his car, including a Sig Sauer pistol, two Canik pistols, six empty magazines, and 775 bullets.

A subsequent search of his residence at Southlands Estate uncovered a shotgun and 210 additional bullets.

During his transport to custody, the suspect requested to retrieve a sweater from his car, claiming he felt unwell. Without handcuffs, he locked himself inside the vehicle and sped away after driving through the station gate, which had been hastily closed by a guard.

Following the escape, police issued a notice with details of the suspect’s vehicle, but he remained at large until his re-arrest in Kasarani.
