Belgium, identified as a key European partner, expressed interest in Kenya’s strategic position as a gateway to East Africa, highlighting the country’s potential role in facilitating access for European investors into the region.
In a separate engagement, Ruto held talks with António Costa, President of the European Council, where discussions centred on the Kenya–European Union Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA).
The agreement provides Kenyan exports with duty-free and quota-free access to European markets and is expected to significantly boost key sectors including horticulture, tea, coffee, and cut flowers, while also encouraging investment in value-added manufacturing.
Costa reaffirmed the European Union’s commitment to supporting Kenya’s economic transformation agenda as well as its climate resilience initiatives.

The series of engagements underscores Kenya’s ongoing push to strengthen economic diplomacy with Europe, expand export opportunities, and attract sustainable foreign investment into the country.
