The Meru High Court has referred the impeachment motion against Governor Kawira Mwangaza to Njuri Ncheke for alternative dispute resolution.
According to court documents obtained by Citizen Digital, Mwangaza and her legal team are required to appear before Njuri Ncheke on Wednesday, July 31.
Njuri Ncheke has been instructed to provide their resolution—or lack thereof—on the matter within three weeks from Monday, July 29. A ruling on the case has been postponed until August 20.
On Friday, the Meru County Assembly halted its debate on the impeachment motion after the High Court issued a temporary injunction on Wednesday, pausing proceedings until further court instructions are given.
This court intervention followed Mwangaza’s petition challenging the impeachment motion, alleging that it was driven by her political opponents.
Meru County Assembly Speaker Ayub Bundi advised members to comply with the court’s decision on Thursday, underscoring the need to maintain fairness in judicial processes.
The impeachment motion, filed by Nominated Member and Deputy Leader of the Majority Party Zipporah Kinya, accuses Mwangaza of significant constitutional breaches, violations of national and county laws, and abuse of office. Specific allegations include illegal appointments and dismissals, financial misconduct, and misleading the public.
Among the accusations, Mwangaza is specifically charged with unlawfully revoking CPA Virginia Kawira Miriti’s appointment as Secretary/CEO of the Meru County Public Service Board, an action taken without proper authorization and contrary to legal requirements.
