8-year-old boy has been discovered dead just hours after he went missing in Yatta, Machakos County.
His body was found in a stream along the Garissa-Nairobi Highway in the Matuu area of Yatta Subcounty on Monday.
According to an eyewitness, the child appears to have been murdered and his body discarded in the stream, only to be discovered on Monday morning.
The boy went missing on Sunday evening, and his body was found later the next day.
Police have started an investigation into the incident.
In response to what they perceive as police negligence, local residents blocked the Kithimani-Matuu road with stones, causing severe transportation disruptions. Motorists were forced to park their vehicles and wait until the road was cleared.
Eyewitnesses report that the protesters were angry over the police’s delayed response to the scene.
They claimed that officers arrived to collect the body around 11 am, despite the discovery of the body at about 7 am.
