President William Ruto has nominated his first set of Cabinet Secretaries to replace those dismissed in a significant announcement on July 11, 2024, following weeks of youth-led protests against the government.
Addressing the press at State House on Friday, the President stated that the 11 nominations, including the Attorney General, were the result of consultations across the political spectrum aimed at restoring peace and stability in the country.
The list includes six reinstated Cabinet Secretaries reassigned to different ministries, with only Prof. Kithure Kindiki and Aden Duale retaining their previous roles.
Below are the appointed Cabinet Secretaries and their respective ministries:
– Ministry of Interior and National Administration – Prof. Kithure Kindiki
– Ministry of Health – Dr. Debra Mulonga Barasa
– Ministry of Lands, Public Works, Housing and Urban Development – Alice Wahome
– Ministry of Education – Julius Migosi Ogamba
– Ministry of Defence – Aden Barre Duale
– Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development – Dr. Andrew Mwihia Karanja
– Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Forestry – Roselinda Soipan Tuiya
– Ministry of Water, Sanitation and Irrigation – Eric Muriithi Muuga
– Ministry of Roads and Transport – Davis Chirchir
– Ministry of Information, Communication and the Digital Economy – Margaret Nyambura Ndung’u
– Attorney-General – Rebecca Miano
“I am continuing consultations across the political spectrum regarding the remaining members of the Cabinet, who will be appointed shortly. These consultations are in advanced stages, and internal processes in various sectors are underway to facilitate the appointment of the rest of the Cabinet,” stated the President.
“Additionally, next week I will announce a clear roadmap outlining the responsibilities of the new Cabinet, with specific timelines and deliverables aimed at harnessing our nation’s vast potential and propelling us towards greatness.”
