Why Njambi Koikai Will be Buried in Lang’ata Rather Than Their Family Land

The family of the late reggae MC Mary Njambi Koikai, affectionately known as Fyah Mummah Jahmby Koikai, has opted to lay her to rest at Lang’ata Cemetery instead of their rural property.

This choice reflects the ongoing struggle the family faces in coping with her loss.

Njambi Koikai lost her battle with endometriosis, a disease she fought for more than twenty years, beginning at the age of 13.

Speaking publicly for the first time since her passing, Njambi’s father elucidated the reasoning behind this significant decision.

He revealed that the family selected Lang’ata Cemetery to honor a sentimental family tradition and to be close to her grandmother, who is also interred there.

“The family decided it was fitting to bury her at Lang’ata Cemetery since that’s where her grandmother rests. Her funeral will take place on Friday, June 14,” he announced.

Moreover, the decision to choose Lang’ata Cemetery over their rural land is influenced by practical factors. Situated in Nairobi, Lang’ata Cemetery is more accessible for friends, family, and fans who wish to bid their final farewells.

Considering Njambi’s prominence and the overwhelming support from her fans, the family deemed it crucial to select a location capable of accommodating the expected number of mourners.

During this time of mourning, Njambi’s family has appealed to the public for assistance, aiming to raise KSh 3 million to cover her medical bills and funeral expenses.

“The total comes to about KSh 3 million for her medical debts and the funeral arrangements. The family felt it appropriate to lay her to rest at Lang’ata Cemetery, where her grandmother rests. Her burial will take place on Friday, June 14,” her father remarked.

Njambi’s father also seized the opportunity to commend his daughter’s resilience and commitment, despite her prolonged suffering.

“It was heart-wrenching to witness my daughter’s agony and witness the doctors’ relentless efforts to alleviate her pain. Despite their best endeavors, a cure remained elusive. Jahmby demonstrated remarkable dedication. Once she set her sights on a goal, she pursued it with unyielding determination and diligence. Her work ethic was truly exceptional.”
