Jasper Ombati Appointed Rift Valley Police Commander

Former police spokesperson Jasper Ombati Nyauma has been appointed as the new Rift Valley Regional police commander in recent announcements made on Friday, replacing Tom Odero, who has been called back to police headquarters in Nairobi.

The Inspector General of Police, Japhet Koome, made the announcement. Ombati, who had been working as a senior advisor at the Italian United Nations office, returned from his mission in February.

After his return, he was assigned to the Kenya Railways and Port Police as the commandant.

Meanwhile, Allan Sangoro, who had been stationed at the UN office in Ethiopia, was appointed to replace Ombati at the Kenya Railways and Port Police.

Odero, who had been serving as the Rift Valley regional commander since March 2022, was instrumental in leading efforts against banditry in the region.

Under his leadership, a multi-agency team managed to significantly curb the menace in most affected areas, although some regions continue to face instability due to ongoing bandit attacks despite security operations.

Ombati’s deployment to the region comes amidst these ongoing operations against bandits and other criminal activities. With his diverse experience within the police service, many are hopeful that Ombati will effectively lead operations in the troubled region.
