President William Ruto unveiled two significant appointments to the government’s executive branch on Tuesday, following the endorsement of the Public Service Commission (PSC).
Felix Koskei, Chief of Staff and Head of Public Service, disclosed that these new appointments were aimed at bolstering Kenya’s and President Ruto’s influence regionally and continentally.
The Head of State designated Ambassador Lazarus Amayo as the Special Envoy for the African Union Championship for Institutional Reforms, while former Amani National Congress (ANC) party Secretary General Simon Gikuru was appointed as the State House Deputy Comptroller.

Koskei explained that Ambassador Amayo’s role was to “assist the Ministry of Foreign & Diaspora Affairs in advancing the President’s distinctive mandate as the African Union Champion for Institutional Reform.”
“The Special Envoy is expected to play a pivotal role in promoting the AU’s institutional reforms in collaboration with the State Department for Foreign Affairs and African Union institutions,” he elaborated.
Ambassador Amayo brings a wealth of experience to the role, having served as Kenya’s Ambassador to the United States in Washington DC, as well as holding various senior public positions including Ambassador/Permanent Representative to the United Nations, High Commissioner of Kenya to the United Kingdom, and Kenya’s High Commissioner to India, among others.

Meanwhile, Mr. Gikuru is a seasoned Advocate of the High Court of Kenya with extensive experience in law, management, strategic planning, and policy formulation. He previously held positions such as Managing Associate at Chege Kamau & Company Advocates and Group Managing Director of Amoo Holdings International Limited.
Gikuru, who holds a Master of Law (LL.M) degree from the University of Nairobi, is expected to bring his expertise to his new role as State House Deputy Comptroller, contributing to the government’s efforts in achieving its goals outlined in the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).

“With the remarkable expertise and experience of the newly appointed officials, the Head of State and Government is confident that they will significantly contribute to the realization of our collective aspirations for a fair, just, and prosperous nation,” Koskei concluded.
