State House Staff Charged With Abuse Of Office

Pius Chirchir, the Deputy Director of Programmes, Public Policy, and President’s Priority Initiatives, faces accusations of misconduct and attempted felony. The Makadara Law Courts rendered the judgment following investigations by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), which found Chirchir responsible for the alleged offenses.

According to the DCI’s statement on X, Chirchir allegedly sought a 2% shareholding from Kentegra Pyrethrum Company Limited to aid the company in circumventing obstacles posed by the Pyrethrum Act of 2013. This act mandated farmers to use the electronic Tax Invoice Management System (eTIMS).

Additionally, Chirchir purportedly offered assistance to the company regarding a case involving the illegal sale of two tons of Kentegra dried pyrethrum flowers to the Pyrethrum Processing Company of Kenya.

Chirchir appeared in court on Tuesday, where he faced charges related to these allegations. He was granted release on a bond of Ksh.200,000, with one surety required for the same amount, or the option of Ksh.100,000 cash bail.

The case is scheduled for mention on June 13, with the hearing slated for September 17, 2024.
