Authorities, in conjunction with local administration, have initiated an inquiry into the demise of a 78-year-old woman who was murdered in her residence at Akoko village in Migori County.
John Kerry Otieno, the Area Assistant Chief, disclosed that the victim, identified as Gaudensia Akumu Madanje, was discovered deceased in her home by her grandson during his lunch break from school.
According to Otieno, the grandson reported having conversed with his grandmother in the morning before leaving for school, noting her good health at the time. The official expressed suspicion that the elderly woman was assaulted by a Tanzanian groundsman.
He further elaborated that the deceased bore multiple injuries, suggesting a struggle with the assailant before succumbing to her injuries. The suspected groundsman, considered the primary perpetrator, has fled to an undisclosed location, prompting ongoing efforts to apprehend him. The motive behind the attack remains unclear.
In the interim, the Area Assistant Chief has urged local residents to meticulously document the details of any individuals they employ as groundskeepers or domestic help. He emphasized the importance of sharing this information with local authorities for swift action in the event of such incidents.
Otieno underscored the challenge faced by the victim’s family in lacking comprehensive details about the prime suspect, who originates from Tanzania.
