Apple has confirmed that it has removed two popular same-sex dating apps in China – Blued and Finka – from the country’s app download area following an order from authorities.
“We comply with the laws of the countries in which we operate. In accordance with the order from the Internet Administration of China, we have removed these two apps from the China-only online shopping area,” an Apple spokesperson said.
The move has raised concerns among the country’s LGBT community.
The BBC has contacted the Chinese embassy in Washington and the companies behind both programs for comment.
Blued is one of the most popular gay dating apps in China, with tens of millions of downloads.
