Sakaja Waives Medical Fees for Embakasi Fire Victims

Nairobi Governor Sakaja has announced that victims of the devastating fire in Embakasi will not have to pay medical fees for treatment in public county hospitals.

The exemption of medical charges, as stated in a Friday release, aims to alleviate the burden on those affected by the tragedy. Governor Sakaja expressed sympathy for the victims and highlighted the collaborative efforts between the County Health and Medical teams and the County Disaster and Risk management teams in providing support.

“Currently, all County Health and Medical teams are also managing the situation and also working hand in hand with the County Disaster and Risk management teams who continue to provide the necessary support to the victims of the fire incident,” said Sakaja in the statement seen by The Lower Eastern Times.

Additionally, the County Government has waived medical fees at its facilities catering to the injured and bereaved, and relief items have been mobilized in partnership with other agencies to aid those affected.

Following the fire incident in Embakasi’s Mradi area, which resulted in two confirmed fatalities and numerous injuries, Government Spokesperson Isaac Mwaura reported that the deceased passed away while receiving treatment at Nairobi West Hospital.

Area residents report hearing loud blasts that echoed through the area, prompting widespread concern and fear.

Mwaura further stated that 222 individuals were injured and have been distributed across various hospitals: 21 at Kenyatta National Hospital, 160 at Mama Lucy General Hospital, 19 at Mbagathi Hospital, 14 at Modern Komarock Hospital, and 8 at Nairobi West Hospital.
