Southwest China Landslide Buries 47 People

A landslide in a remote mountainous area of southwestern China buried 47 individuals on Monday, as reported by state media.

The incident occurred at 5:51 am in Zhenxiong County, Yunnan province. Approximately 18 households were affected, leading to the urgent evacuation of over 200 people from the region.

Emergency response efforts involve more than 200 rescue workers, numerous fire engines, and other equipment. While footage shows the challenging conditions faced by rescuers in the snow-covered terrain, authorities have not confirmed any casualties.

Yunnan frequently experiences landslides due to its mountainous topography. Investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of this latest disaster.

China has faced several natural disasters in recent months, often linked to extreme weather events.
