Hundreds of motorists were left stranded after a group of protesters blocked the Pangani section of Thika Superhighway following a demolition exercise that sparked unrest.
The demonstrators said they were protesting the demolition of their structures, which they claimed had left them aggrieved.
The road blockade brought traffic to a standstill, with long lines of private vehicles and public service buses stretching along the busy highway as commuters waited for normal traffic flow to resume.

According to witnesses, some protesters were carrying machetes and other crude weapons as they moved along the road.
During the chaos, reports emerged that several motorists were robbed, although authorities had not confirmed the number of victims or the extent of the incidents.
Police officers were deployed to the area and intervened to restore calm and clear the road.
By the time of the report, it was unclear whether anyone had been injured during the confrontation.
