The gang allegedly restrained one watchman by tying his hands with his socks before attacking his colleague, 36-year-old Shadrach Ngetich, who sustained a deep head wound and another serious cut on his left leg.
The suspects then raided seven coffee drying beds and escaped with an unknown quantity of coffee. The value of the stolen produce had not been established by the time police filed their report.
The surviving guard was later freed by members of the public.
Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) officers documented the scene before Ngetich’s body was taken to Kigumo Level 4 Hospital mortuary, where a post-mortem examination will be conducted.
Detectives are pursuing those responsible and seeking to recover the stolen coffee. Authorities say similar attacks targeting coffee factories have become increasingly common in the region.
In a separate incident, police in Msambweni Sub-County, Kwale County, are investigating the death of an unidentified man whose body was found in a bush near Diani.
The discovery was reported by a village elder on Wednesday after he found the body in bushes within Mvindeni Location.
