The Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP), led by Rigathi Gachagua, has announced key leadership changes, naming John Methu as Secretary General designate as part of new National Executive Council (NEC) appointments aimed at strengthening the party ahead of future elections.
Gachagua also alleged that the party would have won the Emurua Dikirr by-election if not for what he described as bribery and intimidation, claiming that the outcome showed even President William Ruto faces resistance that requires excessive campaign influence in his own strongholds.

He thanked voters in the area for their support, insisting that the results reflected strong backing for DCP despite the alleged irregularities.
In the new party lineup, the NEC appointed Leonard Cheruiyot as Secretary for Agriculture and Livestock, Abdi Noor Mohammed as chairperson for Northern representation, and Wilson Kanyagu Ndungu of Daystar University as youth representative.
Gachagua said the appointments are part of efforts to expand the party’s national structure and increase its presence across the country.
He further said John Methu will take over as Secretary General designate, with additional responsibility for coordinating the party’s campaign in the Ol Kalou by-election.
The DCP leader also claimed the party is gaining traction in both the North Rift and South Rift regions, with thousands reportedly expressing interest in contesting various elective seats under the party ticket.
He stated that the party has received 34 gubernatorial expressions of interest, 764 parliamentary aspirants, and over 11,000 MCA hopefuls.
Gachagua also claimed that DCP membership has grown to more than 4.5 million, while accusing the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties of failing to properly process requests to remove individuals from the UDA party register.
