Mutua Defies Pressure, Refuses to Merge his Party with UDA

The Maendeleo Chap Chap Party has dismissed proposals to dissolve and merge with the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA), insisting that it will continue operating as an independent party within the Kenya Kwanza Alliance.

The resolution was made during a National Governing Council (NGC) meeting chaired by party leader and Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua, alongside other senior officials.

Addressing the media after the meeting, Secretary General Nyamu Mati revealed that the party had received requests to fold and join UDA, following a recent wave of smaller Kenya Kwanza affiliate parties merging with the ruling outfit.

Mati, however, stated that after extensive consultations with party members nationwide, Maendeleo Chap Chap unanimously agreed to retain its identity and remain autonomous within the coalition.

The party also reaffirmed its backing for President William Ruto’s 2027 re-election bid, confirming that it will not sponsor a presidential candidate in the upcoming General Election.
