French President Emmanuel Macron on Monday temporarily paused proceedings at the Africa Forward Summit in Nairobi to call out attendees for making noise while speakers and performers were addressing the audience.
Macron interrupted the session and asked delegates to respect those on stage, criticizing the disruptions during discussions centred on culture and youth engagement.

His remarks were met with applause from parts of the audience before calm was restored and the event continued.
“Excuse me, everybody, hey, hey. I’m sorry, but it is impossible to speak about culture and to have people like that super inspired coming here, making a speech with such noise. This is a total lack of respect,” Macron told attendees.
He added that those wishing to hold private conversations should move outside or use designated meeting rooms instead of disrupting the session.
Macron is in Kenya for the Africa Forward Summit, a two-day event co-hosted by William Ruto and France on May 11 and 12.
The summit is aimed at redefining ties between Africa and France while deepening cooperation in areas such as economic growth, innovation, investment and global governance.
The gathering has attracted African Heads of State, African Union representatives, investors, development partners, business executives, innovators and creatives.
Organisers say the summit seeks to promote a new partnership model between Africa and France built on equality, mutual respect and shared prosperity.
Held under the patronage of Presidents Macron and Ruto, the event is co-organised by Bpifrance, Business France and Proparco.
More than 1,500 political, economic and institutional leaders from Africa and France are expected to participate.

The summit is also focusing on Africa’s innovation potential and exploring solutions to emerging global and continental challenges.
Ahead of the summit, Ruto described the event as a key opportunity to shape future partnerships between Africa and the rest of the world.
Macron also said the summit represents a major milestone in efforts to redefine relations between France and African nations through partnerships based on shared interests and equal footing.
