A new Trends and Insights for Africa (TIFA) survey shows that most Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) supporters would like Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna to be the party’s presidential candidate in the 2027 General Election.
According to the poll, 44 percent of ODM supporters identified Sifuna as their preferred flagbearer, giving him the highest level of support among all candidates considered in the survey.

President William Ruto ranked second among ODM supporters with 20 percent support despite leading the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i came third with 9 percent, while Embakasi East MP Babu Owino and Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka each received 4 percent support.
Former Chief Justice David Maraga attracted 2 percent, while Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua received 1 percent support.
Another 3 percent backed other candidates, while 13 percent of ODM supporters said they were yet to decide on their preferred presidential candidate.
The findings are part of TIFA’s second national survey of 2026, conducted between June 13 and June 22, involving face-to-face interviews with 2,048 adults drawn from all 47 counties.
Within the ruling UDA, the survey found that President Ruto continues to enjoy overwhelming support, with 84 percent of party supporters backing his bid for re-election in 2027.
Among UDA supporters, Kalonzo Musyoka emerged as the second most preferred candidate with 3 percent, while Sifuna, Matiang’i, Gachagua and other contenders each received 2 percent.
The survey also found that Rigathi Gachagua leads among supporters of the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), where he enjoys 44 percent support. Kalonzo Musyoka followed with 19 percent, while Fred Matiang’i received 15 percent, indicating divided preferences within the party.
Among Jubilee Party supporters, Fred Matiang’i remained the clear favourite, with 73 percent identifying him as their preferred presidential candidate. All other contenders received less than 10 percent support.
The poll further showed that Wiper Party supporters demonstrated the strongest party loyalty, with 90 percent saying they would support party leader Kalonzo Musyoka in the next presidential election.
According to TIFA, the findings highlight different levels of party unity ahead of the 2027 General Election, with UDA, Jubilee and Wiper supporters showing stronger internal cohesion than other political parties.
The research organisation noted that the survey reflects public opinion during the June 2026 data collection period and that political developments after the interviews may influence future public preferences.
