Applicants must collect and complete official nomination forms from the party headquarters, attach the required documents, and submit proof of payment via the provided banking and paybill channels. The deadline for applications is May 2, 2026.
The move signals the start of what is shaping up to be a tight contest, as political parties intensify preparations for the upcoming by-election.
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) announced the by-election after National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula declared the seat vacant on April 20, 2026. The vacancy followed the death of Ol Kalou MP David Njuguna Kiaraho on March 29, 2026.
National Elections Board Chairperson Wanjiru Kago said the party is committed to a transparent and disciplined nomination process, urging qualified aspirants to step forward.

At the same time, the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has also announced plans to conduct its own nominations. Party chairperson Cecily Mbarire revealed that more than 10 aspirants have already shown interest in contesting on the UDA ticket, promising a fair and credible nomination exercise ahead of the by-election.
