Murkomen said the absence of warning signs on the trailer contributed to the tragic incident, noting that the driver and turnboy’s actions led to significant loss.
Speaking at a hospital in Mombasa after visiting Captain Ruto, the CS confirmed that he is in stable condition and out of danger after undergoing medical assessments. He added that the KPA boss will remain under observation for 24 hours.
Murkomen also conveyed his condolences to the family following the death of Ruto’s daughter in the accident.
He urged motorists to remain vigilant on the roads, particularly during busy travel periods, emphasizing the need for caution and adherence to traffic rules.
The CS, who was accompanied by DCI Director Mohamed Amin and Deputy Inspector General Gilbert Masengeli, had been in the Coast region to review security when he received news of the crash.

He reiterated the government’s commitment to enhancing road safety, noting that many accidents are caused by preventable human errors such as overspeeding, poor parking, lack of signage, and failure to follow traffic regulations.
Murkomen said the Transport Ministry is working closely with NTSA to reduce road crashes, calling on all road users to play their part in ensuring safety.
