She told police the attack happened at around 11 p.m. on Thursday after she got home, alighted from a bus, and walked through a poorly lit alley where she stopped to purchase fruits.

It was at that point that the two armed suspects confronted her, demanded her valuables, and snatched her mobile phone. When she screamed for help, one of them shot her, with the bullet passing through her leg below the knee.

She was rushed to hospital and admitted for treatment, while the attackers fled the scene on a motorcycle, according to Nairobi police commander Issa Mohamud. Officers later visited the scene and recovered a spent cartridge as investigations continue.

Police noted that the area has recently experienced a rise in crime, prompting increased patrols and efforts to track down criminal gangs.

In a separate incident, an M-Pesa agent was also shot and injured during a robbery in Kisumu.

Police said the attack occurred on Thursday night at Jubilee Market, where three armed men confronted the victim, shot her in the leg, and made away with an undisclosed amount of money, two M-Pesa phones, and her bag.
