A group of Nairobi County Assembly Members has unveiled plans to initiate impeachment proceedings against Governor Johnson Sakaja.
The MCAs, led by Deputy Minority Leader and South B representative Waithera Chege alongside Baba Dogo MCA Godfrey Majiwa, announced that they have gathered sufficient signatures to table a motion seeking the governor’s removal.

Speaking to the press on Tuesday, Chege said they were prepared to formally submit the motion but were unable to proceed after the Clerk failed to appear to receive the documents.
She noted that while the Assembly successfully passed the proposed cooperation agreement between the Nairobi County Government and the National Government, their attempt to present the impeachment signatures was unsuccessful due to the Clerk’s absence. According to her, the Speaker has assured them they will be able to submit the motion by 10 a.m. the following day.
Chege explained that details of the motion cannot be disclosed until it is officially tabled before the Speaker, at which point it will become a public document. She, however, confirmed that they have secured enough backing to move to the first stage of the process.

The Deputy Minority Leader further revealed that the motion contains 22 charges against the governor, though she declined to make the specifics public at this stage.
The renewed impeachment efforts come shortly after the Assembly approved a cooperation framework between the county administration and the national government.
