Boys’ Mental Health Event Set for 14th February in Mukurwe-ini

In response to rising cases of suicide and mental health challenges among boys and young men in Mukurwe-ini, community leaders and partners have launched a dedicated initiative, OKOA BOYCHILD Mukurwe-ini, aimed at creating a safe space for young males to talk, learn, and access support.

The initiative comes amid growing concern over the silent suffering of boys dealing with depression, societal pressures, unemployment, and alcohol and drug abuse.

Organizers say that many young men endure these struggles quietly, often without knowing where to turn for help.

The event, scheduled for 14th February 2026 at the Mukurwe-ini CDF Hall from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., will provide a platform for discussions on mental health, coping strategies, and available support services.

OKOA BOYCHILD Mukurwe-ini aims to break the stigma surrounding mental health issues among young men and to empower them with the knowledge and resources needed to overcome challenges. The program will feature interactive sessions, expert talks, and guidance on accessing professional help.

Speaking about the initiative, organizer Zedekiah Gichuki emphasized the importance of community support.

“We can no longer stay silent. Mental health matters, and every life matters. This is a chance for boys and young men to speak openly, learn, and know where to seek help,” he said.

The program is supported by several partners, including the area MP John Kaguchia, Nyeri Got Talent, and The Lower Eastern Times, among others.

Organizers encourage parents, guardians, and community members to participate and help create a supportive environment for boys in the county.

With rising cases of depression and suicide, initiatives like OKOA BOYCHILD Mukurwe-ini represent a critical step toward addressing mental health challenges and fostering a safer, more supportive community for young men.
