Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has accused President William Ruto of being behind the attack on his former deputy, Rigathi Gachagua, during a church service in Othaya, Nyeri County, on Sunday.
Gachagua was reportedly disrupted by individuals believed to be plainclothes police officers, who threw teargas and fired shots inside the church.

Speaking in Machakos County after the incident, Kalonzo condemned the attack, describing it as a coordinated operation carried out by police disguised as thugs. He questioned how the attackers had obtained teargas, which is normally restricted to Kenya Police Service personnel.
The former Vice President warned the President against using public institutions to settle political scores.
“I urge Kenyans to reject the misuse of churches, attacks on places of worship, and the throwing of teargas,” Kalonzo said.
He also claimed that Gachagua had been taken to an unknown location during the chaos.
“We demand that Rigathi Gachagua be produced immediately so Kenyans can know his condition. If anything happens to him, William Ruto will be held responsible,” he warned.
At the time of reporting, Citizen Digital had obtained footage showing Gachagua escaping the church premises with the help of his aides.

Eyewitnesses said teargas filled the air and vehicles were also attacked. Churchgoers reported finding live bullets inside the compound.
The attackers, believed to be plainclothes police, reportedly fired live rounds and lobbed teargas as the DCP leader arrived for the Sunday service.
The full extent of injuries or property damage remains unclear. Sunday’s incident is not the first time Gachagua has been targeted at a church; he has previously faced similar attacks.
