The match attracted volleyball enthusiasts from across Nairobi, eager to witness another chapter in the growing rivalry between the two powerhouses.

KCB went into the match seeking revenge following their elimination by DCI Queens at the Kipchumba Karori International Volleyball Tournament semifinals in Eldoret, where the detectives had prevailed in a similar five-set battle.

DCI head coach Patrick Sang retained the same starting lineup that delivered victory in Eldoret, with the team once again turning out in their trademark blue jerseys.

The opening set saw both sides exchange the lead in a tense back-and-forth contest. With the score tied at 22, Coach Sang called a crucial timeout that steadied his players, enabling DCI to fend off a late KCB surge and take the set 25–23.

Buoyed by the momentum, the Queens dominated the second set. Opposite hitter Mercy Iminza and left attacker Sarah Namisi were in fine form, combining seamlessly with setter Jane Mumbua to unleash a series of well-executed attacks that electrified the arena. DCI built an early lead and maintained control to win the set 25–19, even as brief power interruptions disrupted play.

Facing defeat, KCB regrouped strongly in the third and fourth sets, displaying renewed precision and resilience to claim both and level the match at two sets apiece.

The contest was then decided in a tense fifth-set tiebreaker, with the lead changing hands three times. With both teams locked at 12 points and timeouts exhausted, KCB made strategic use of an additional substitution, a move that proved decisive as they narrowly clinched the set 15–13 to secure the match.

Despite the loss, DCI Queens left the court with their heads held high, having put in a spirited performance. They will now turn their focus to their final group-stage fixture against debutants A Plus.

Staffing Officer Personnel I, Mr Muriuki Raaria, praised the team’s fighting spirit, encouraging the players to remain united and focused as they build on the positives from the match.

The DCI Queens now shift their attention to the upcoming Confederation of Africa Zone V Games in February, where they are set to make their debut and aim to leave a strong impression on the continental stage.
