A miner lost his life after he and others entered a gold mining shaft at a site in Matindi Village, Kakamega County.

Two others sustained serious injuries in the incident that occurred on Saturday, March 8, according to police.
This was the second consecutive weekend that a fatality occurred at a goldmine site.
Police reported that three individuals had entered the shaft in Kakamega to extract gold. The shaft is located near River Yala.
The shaft collapsed, trapping them. Two were rescued alive, while the third died at the scene, according to police.
The injured were taken to Iguhu Level Four Hospital for treatment.
The body of the deceased was transferred to the Mbale Sub County Hospital Morgue for a postmortem examination.
A similar incident occurred in West Pokot over the weekend, where two women lost their lives.
Four others were injured in the Saturday collapse in Kambi Karaya village, Sigor, West Pokot County.
Police reported that the injured were taken to the hospital and were in stable condition.
West Pokot County Commissioner Khalif Abdullahi stated that the mine collapsed around 12:30 pm while workers were inside.
The bodies of the victims were recovered and handed over to their families for burial.
The injured survivors were rescued by fellow miners and villagers before being transported to a nearby health facility for care.
