Kenya will experience widespread rainfall alongside sharp temperature contrasts between December 16 and December 22, according to the latest seven-day forecast from the Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD).
The department says rain is expected across several regions, including the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Coast, North-eastern Kenya and the South-eastern lowlands. The conditions are likely to impact both key farming areas and major towns during the forecast period.

KMD also projects high daytime temperatures, with readings exceeding 30°C in parts of the Coast, North-eastern and North-western Kenya, as well as sections of the South-eastern lowlands, the Rift Valley and the Highlands West of the Rift Valley.
Conversely, very cold nights are expected in elevated areas, where minimum temperatures may fall below 10°C in parts of the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, some Rift Valley regions and areas around Mt Kilimanjaro.
In the Lake Victoria Basin and the Highlands West of the Rift Valley—covering counties such as Kisumu, Kakamega, Kisii, Kericho and Bungoma—residents should expect sunny mornings followed by afternoon showers and occasional thunderstorms, with some rainfall at night.
North-western Kenya, including Turkana and Samburu, is forecast to have sunny spells during the day, though isolated morning showers and afternoon or night thunderstorms may occur in a few places.
For the Highlands East of the Rift Valley, including Nairobi and neighbouring counties, cloudy mornings with occasional rain are expected, followed by sunny intervals and scattered afternoon showers.
Along the Coast, counties such as Mombasa, Kilifi, Kwale and Lamu are likely to receive showers at different times of the day and night, interspersed with sunny periods.

The forecast comes after a week of increased rainfall across much of the country. Between December 8 and December 14, the highest weekly rainfall total of 160.2 millimetres was recorded at the Winfred Kavengi station in Kitui County, which also registered the highest 24-hour rainfall on December 13.
Temperature data from the same period showed Lodwar recording the highest maximum temperature at 37.1°C, while Nyahururu experienced the lowest minimum temperature at 4.7°C.
KMD advised the public to use the weekly outlook together with daily and five-day forecasts, noting that county-level updates are available through local meteorological offices.
