Police in Kitale are investigating a shooting incident in which a student from Kitale National Polytechnic was seriously injured following an altercation in Kibomet, Trans Nzoia County.
A police officer attached to Kitale Police Station has been arrested in connection with the incident and is being held pending arraignment.

According to reports, the officer was positively identified by witnesses during an identification parade on Thursday as the individual who shot the student.
The shooting occurred around dawn on October 22, 2025, at Norec Shopping Centre, where the student and his friends were playing pool. Witnesses said a confrontation broke out between the student and the suspect, who then drew his gun and fired at close range before escaping on a motorcycle.
Responding officers recovered two spent 9mm cartridges, a bullet head, and bloodstains at the scene, confirming the shooting.
The victim was rushed to Kijana Wamalwa Referral Hospital with a gunshot wound to the abdomen and remains in critical condition.

Investigations are underway to determine what triggered the altercation and whether the weapon used was a government-issued firearm. Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have joined the probe.

In a separate incident in Mombasa County, a woman sustained injuries after allegedly being pushed from a first-floor apartment in Jomvu during a domestic dispute with her husband. The suspect fled after the incident, and police are pursuing him. The woman is recovering in stable condition at a local hospital.
Meanwhile, in Nairobi, police are probing the death of a man who was hit by a train along the Ruiru–Nairobi railway line near Industrial Area. Preliminary investigations suggest the man was attempting to cross the tracks when he was struck.
His body was moved to the City Mortuary for identification and postmortem. Kenya Railways officials have warned pedestrians against using unauthorized crossing points, citing negligence as a major cause of such accidents.
