The government has disbursed Ksh.2,089,844,000 to over 1 million beneficiaries of the Inua Jamii program, as announced by the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection. Cabinet Secretary Florence Bore disclosed that the funds were released on Friday, accompanied by an additional Ksh.5,930,000 for the Nutrition Improvement through Cash and Health Education (NICHE) program.
CS Bore explained that the Inua Jamii cash was deposited into the accounts of 1,044,922 beneficiaries, each slated to receive Ksh.2,000 for the December 2023 payment, starting from Tuesday.
In compliance with a presidential directive, Inua Jamii recipients will now receive their stipends through the Mpesa platform. Caregivers of Orphans and Vulnerable Children beneficiaries Cash Transfer (OVC-CT) and Persons with Severe Disabilities beneficiaries Cash Transfer (PwSD-CT) are instructed to register for Mpesa payments by dialing *222# using their registered Mpesa phone numbers, marking the initiation of the first phase of Mpesa payments for OVC-CT and PwSD-CT.
Older Persons Cash Transfer (OP-CT) beneficiaries will continue to receive their funds through their regular bank accounts.
