On Monday, relatives and friends will gather at Lee Funeral Home for a viewing and prayer service before the cortege proceeds to the Kariokor Crematorium. A short service will take place there ahead of the cremation, with the exact time to be announced later.
Sammy Lui was celebrated as one of Kenya’s most distinguished voices, especially during the late President Mwai Kibaki’s era, and was admired for his eloquence and professionalism throughout his decades in broadcasting.
In his condolence message, President William Ruto described Lui as “a devoted public servant, a veteran broadcaster, and a respected State Master of Ceremonies whose voice became part of Kenya’s national identity.”
From his early beginnings at the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC) to his service at the Presidential Press Service and later as Director of State Events, Lui’s career reflected years of commitment to public communication and national service.
“Sammy Lui’s commanding and graceful voice anchored countless national ceremonies, guiding Kenyans through moments of celebration and reflection. His professionalism, humility, and pursuit of excellence remain an inspiration to broadcasters and public servants alike,” President Ruto said.
