Police in Kikuyu, Kiambu County, have recovered an unexploded bomb after a local farmer discovered the device while preparing his land for planting in Kerwa area.
The incident occurred on October 23, 2025, at around 11:00 a.m. when David Muiruri, a resident of Kerwa Sub-location, was harrowing his farm with a tractor and came across a brown metallic object resembling a bomb.

Sensing danger, Muiruri photographed the object and immediately reported the matter to Kerwa Police Station.
Officers led by OCS Chief Inspector Lydia Rutoh responded promptly, securing the area and alerting the Sub-County Police Commander. A joint team of detectives and bomb disposal experts from the DCI National Forensic Bomb Disposal Unit was dispatched to the scene.
The experts confirmed the item was an active 80mm high-explosive unexploded ordnance. The bomb was safely secured, removed from the site, and taken for further examination and disposal.
No injuries or property damage were reported, and the area was later declared safe. Authorities have launched investigations to determine the origin of the explosive, suspecting it could be a remnant of past military activity.

Police commended Muiruri for his swift action, which likely prevented a major tragedy. Residents have been urged to report any suspicious metallic objects or explosives to nearby police stations.
A similar incident occurred on March 18, 2023, when fishermen on Lake Victoria’s Ngodhe Islands in Homa Bay County discovered six mortar bombs entangled in their nets. The explosives were later secured by bomb disposal officers in Kisumu.
