Construction of Talanta Stadium is moving steadily forward as Kenya gears up to co-host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
President William Ruto has reiterated his administration’s dedication to providing world-class sporting facilities, sharing new photos that show the stadium’s ongoing construction.
“Talanta Stadium construction is progressing well as we prepare to co-host AFCON 2027,” he stated.
The stadium is a key part of the government’s broader plan to upgrade sports infrastructure and meet the Confederation of African Football (CAF) requirements for the continental tournament.
Situated at Jamhuri Grounds along Ngong Road, just past Dagoretti Corner and roughly 10 kilometres from Nairobi’s CBD, the 60,000-seater stadium will serve as one of the main venues for AFCON 2027.
Once completed, Talanta Stadium will complement existing facilities such as the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani (60,000 capacity), and the Nyayo National Stadium (15,000 capacity).

Built specifically for football and rugby, the stadium will not include an athletics track—unlike traditional multipurpose venues. Instead, separate athletics facilities are being developed nearby to accommodate track and field events.
The Talanta Stadium project is part of Kenya’s wider AFCON 2027 preparations, being jointly hosted with Uganda and Tanzania.
Kenya has committed to fulfilling all CAF infrastructure standards, including stadiums, training sites, transport networks, and accommodation.
As one of several flagship sports projects underway, Talanta Stadium underscores the government’s ambition to modernize sports infrastructure and elevate Kenya’s status as a leading destination for global sporting events.
