In an emotional message read during Raila’s state funeral, Ida said his sudden death had left her deeply broken.
“My dear, my heart is heavy as I write these words,” she began. “The news of your passing feels like a wound that won’t heal. I pray for strength, for courage, and for peace that surpasses understanding.”
Reflecting on their life together, Ida said she had dreamed of spending their old age side by side in peace and quiet.
“For over five decades, you were more than my husband—you were my partner and my greatest supporter. I had hoped we would retire together, watching sunsets and enjoying the fruits of our labour. But I now accept that God’s plan is greater than ours.”
She described Raila as a man of unmatched bravery, compassion, and faith who inspired many through his example.
“You taught us what courage rooted in faith truly means. You faced storms with strength and forgiveness,” she wrote.
Ida said Raila’s generosity and leadership extended far beyond their family.
“You opened your heart and home to the nation. Your sacrifices and guidance have left an indelible mark on Kenya’s history,” she added.
Calling his death a monumental loss, Ida said Raila’s life was a pillar of strength for their family and for Kenya.
“Losing you feels like losing our foundation,” she said. “Your commitment to justice and democracy never wavered, even to your last breath. I am proud of the man you were.”
She also thanked Kenyans and friends globally for the outpouring of comfort and love, saying their support had brought her solace.
Concluding her tribute, she wrote: “Farewell, my dear. You ran your race with honour, courage, and love for Kenya. May your soul rest in eternal peace. Until we meet again, you remain forever in my heart.”
