ODM Postpones Grassroots Polls in Homa Bay

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has pushed back its grassroots elections in sections of Homa Bay County.

In a notice dated August 18, the party’s National Elections Coordinating Committee (NECC) announced that the polls in East Kamagak Ward and Kasipul Constituency, which were slated for Wednesday, August 20, and Thursday, August 21, 2025, will not take place as scheduled.

The committee said the elections have been deferred until further notice, promising to announce new dates soon.

“Fresh dates shall be communicated in due course. We urge members in the affected areas to remain patient and await official communication,” said NECC Chairperson Emily Awita.

This comes just a day after ODM revealed that countywide delegates’ elections will be conducted on Monday, August 25, 2025, at polling centers nationwide.

According to the NECC, only eligible delegates listed on the ODM website can contest for county-level offices. However, Migori, Nairobi, Homa Bay, and Kisumu counties will not participate in the exercise.

ODM launched its grassroots election process in April 2025, following polling unit elections held in November 2024. The sub-branch (ward) polls were set for April 7 across all 47 counties.

So far, 77 officials have been elected at sub-branch and branch levels across four committees: mainstream, women’s league, youth league, and disability league.
