Posed with Motorcycle at State House, Sent Home Without

A Nairobi man has gone viral after humorously recounting how a visit to State House for a youth empowerment forum ended in disappointment despite posing for photos with a brand-new motorcycle.

President William Ruto had invited young people to the event, promising to equip them with tools such as motorcycles, barber kits, salon equipment, and washing machines to help grow small businesses.

The man said entry to the event was easy — all that was needed was a national ID. Attendees were warmly welcomed, served food and soda, and then ushered into the main programme.

He claims he was photographed holding a motorcycle and its keys as if he had been awarded it, and then told to wait at the gate for his prize. Instead, he says, officers from the GSU instructed him to leave for home.

The man, who drew laughter with his story, said he didn’t blame the president or organisers but faulted himself for attending without fully understanding the process. He admitted he partly went because people had teased him for looking undernourished, making him hope meeting the President would change his fortunes.

Instead, he says, nothing in his life has changed except for the influx of calls from friends and relatives asking for money or questioning why they weren’t invited.

The State House forum was part of a series of youth empowerment events in Nairobi, where President Ruto handed out tools of trade to selected participants. It remains unclear whether the man’s experience was due to a misunderstanding or an actual mix-up.
