Ekuru Aukot: Azimio is in Government, it was Bought Last Year

According to Thirdway Alliance Kenya party leader Ekuru Aukot, Kenya’s opposition has failed in its oversight role due to being allegedly “bought” by the ruling party, the United Democratic Alliance (UDA). Aukot claims that the opposition, including Azimio, has been working in tandem with the government while publicly pretending to oppose it.

Aukot argues that this compromise has deprived Kenya of a genuine opposition that could hold the government accountable. He alleges that Azimio’s supposed alliance with UDA was established as early as February last year, citing evidence such as the bipartisan discussions at the Bomas of Kenya, which led to the controversial National Dialogue Committee (NADCO) report.

Aukot dismisses the Bomas talks as mere theatrics designed to deceive the public and maintain political bases, rather than address the real issues facing the country. However, Kacheliba MP Titus Lotee, who switched allegiance from the opposition to UDA, refutes Aukot’s claims, stating that those who left Azimio did so voluntarily due to internal disarray, not because they were bought.

Despite rumors of discord within the coalition, Azimio’s leader Raila Odinga insists that the coalition remains strong and committed to its cause of liberating Kenya. Meanwhile, some coalition principals, like Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka and DAP-K leader Eugene Wamalwa, have expressed interest in running for the presidency in the 2027 General Election.
