ODM Rejects Viral Letter Claiming Orengo’s Resignation as Fake

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party has dismissed a letter circulating online that falsely claims Siaya Governor James Orengo has resigned.

The letter, which has gained significant attention, purports to be from Orengo and is addressed to the Speaker of the Siaya County Assembly, with copies sent to the Deputy Governor, the Council of Governors, and ODM leader Raila Odinga.

In a statement on X, the party stated, “We can authoritatively confirm that the letter below is FAKE. Ignore it and focus.”

The fraudulent letter cites health issues as the reason for the supposed resignation, claiming it was made after discussions with his family.

The letter reads, “It is with a heavy heart and after deep reflection that I hereby tender my resignation from the office of the Governor of Siaya County, effective immediately.” It continues, “This decision is driven by personal health challenges that require my full attention. After thorough consultations with my family and medical professionals, it is clear that I am no longer able to perform the demanding duties of the Governor’s office to the best of my ability.”

Star Fact-Checker has verified that the letter did not come from Orengo’s official communication channels.

Orengo has been out of the public eye for several weeks, and there have been increasing calls for him to address his constituents.
