The suspect, identified as the brother of the main suspect still at large, was apprehended during a raid by officers from Kabete Police Station and DCI detectives at a homestead in Kirigu, Mutuini area on Friday.
Authorities confirmed that the recovered rifle was one of five firearms stolen when Kingongo Police Post was looted and set ablaze by criminals amid the protests. The weapon was discovered hidden under a table.
A police report indicates the fugitive suspect, believed to have taken the firearm, was spotted vandalizing a Cooperative Bank ATM at Dagoretti Market and later seen drinking at a local bar while allegedly armed.
“He was captured on CCTV damaging the ATM and has reportedly been sharing stolen money with friends,” the report noted.
Police also found a pair of police boots believed to have been stolen during the chaos, discarded near the suspect’s residence.
The arrested individual is further accused of transporting the stolen police station signboard, an act also caught on surveillance footage.
A manhunt for the prime suspect remains ongoing.
