A family in Mombasa is seeking justice and answers after the sudden and mysterious death of 23-year-old Faith Anindo, who was reportedly pregnant and in good health before a visit to Coast General Hospital’s Utange branch.

According to her family, Faith had only gone to the hospital on Monday, May 12, to seek treatment for a mild skin rash. However, things took a tragic turn when she was allegedly injected with an unidentified drug, after which her condition deteriorated rapidly.
Her husband, Lawrence Wekesa, described alarming symptoms following the injection — her eyes turned yellow, her body swelled, and severe burns developed on her legs, which they believe were caused by the medication.
“The drug caused the burns. Her legs were dressed, and when the bandages were removed, both were completely burned,” Wekesa recounted.
The family is also accusing the hospital of hiding critical information. A friend, Benta, claimed they discovered that two pages from Faith’s clinic booklet — which detailed the treatment — had been removed.
“There were two summary pages in her clinic book that were cut out. If there’s nothing to hide, why were they removed?” Benta asked.
Wekesa further questioned the hospital’s approach, wondering why a pregnant woman would be injected without being informed of the drug being administered.
The Mombasa County Government has partly blamed the family for discharging Faith from the hospital, implying that the move may have contributed to her death. However, Wekesa insists they had no choice.
“She was not receiving any care. If she had been treated properly, we wouldn’t have taken her out. I believe she would still be alive if she had been looked after,” he said.
