While addressing residents during a tour of Ukambani on Friday, Kalonzo said the rebrand aims to give the party a more national character and actively engage Kenya’s youth, especially Generation Z.

He encouraged young people to join the party, saying, “Wiper is now taking a national direction. We’re rebranding to Wiper Patriotic Front to ensure Gen Z is fully part of this movement.”

Kalonzo made the remarks during a stop in Emali, Makueni County, where he was joined by fellow opposition leaders including former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and Kisii Senator Richard Onyonka.

Explaining the motivation behind the new name, Kalonzo said it embodies the patriotism shown by Gen Z last year when they mobilized nationwide protests against the Kenya Kwanza government’s tax proposals.

“This is the spirit we want to carry forward — a Patriotic Front. We’ll launch it officially once our brother Gachagua introduces his Democracy for the Citizens Party,” he said.

As preparations continue, Kalonzo urged supporters to register in large numbers, with the goal of expanding the party’s membership from the current one million to between three and four million.

He also announced that the opposition will commemorate June 25 as a National Liberation Day to honour Gen Z protesters who died during the Occupy Parliament movement.

In his remarks, Kalonzo criticized ODM leader Raila Odinga for cooperating with the Kenya Kwanza administration despite its violent crackdown on peaceful demonstrators.

He questioned Raila’s appeal for government compensation for victims, accusing him of aligning with the very regime responsible for the brutality.

“I’m grateful you advised me not to join that government. Our youth were killed while peacefully protesting — armed with only the Kenyan flag, their phones, and water bottles. Yet no one has been held accountable. One of the first to fall, Rex Masai, was from right here in Machakos,” Kalonzo said.
