The officers, supporting a team from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) based in Nairobi, were reportedly carrying a search warrant and intended to question the governor.

As news of the operation spread, a crowd formed outside the property, prompting police to intervene and disperse onlookers.

The raid follows recent claims by opposition leaders, who alleged that plans were underway to arrest Natembeya. The governor has been a vocal critic of the current administration—an aspect many believe may have motivated the raid.

Though the EACC has not released full details, officials confirmed that Natembeya is currently under investigation.

The Democratic Action Party–Kenya (DAP-K), to which Natembeya belongs, condemned the incident in a statement shared on its social media platforms.

“Heavily armed, plainclothes officers, with faces concealed, have entered Governor Natembeya’s Milimani residence. Such outdated intimidation tactics won’t succeed in today’s Kenya. The misuse of security agencies to settle political scores must end,” the party said.

DAP-K further warned against the politicization of independent institutions to target dissenting voices.

“The attempt to arrest Governor Natembeya for championing people-focused leadership under the TAWE agenda will face firm public opposition,” the statement concluded.
