The event, organised by A Rocha Kenya—an organisation focused on environmental conservation and community development—aims to raise funds to support the education of children living around the Arabuko-Sokoke Forest, a vital ecological zone.

Undeterred by persistent rain and muddy terrain, Nyaga and Masiga navigated the challenging forest trails to take top positions, each receiving a Sh50,000 prize.

Bernard Njoroge and Nancy Debe came in second and were awarded Sh30,000, while Ephantus Gicheru and Monica Jelimo took third place, earning Sh10,000 each.

The demanding course through the forest tested the cyclists’ endurance, determination, and commitment to a noble cause.

“Even with the rain, we’re here to support both the environment and the education of these children,” Nyaga said.

He added that cycling for such a meaningful cause was especially fulfilling.

The popular annual race drew elite athletes as well as recreational riders, with various race categories allowing people of all abilities to take part—whether in competitive or casual rides.

Patrick Kilimo, A Rocha Kenya’s event coordinator, highlighted the broader significance of the event.

“This is about more than just a race—it’s about changing lives,” he said. “Every shilling raised goes toward educational programs for children in the forest communities, giving them access to resources and learning opportunities.”

Local vendors helped create a festive atmosphere by providing food, refreshments, and encouragement to the rain-soaked but spirited participants.
