US to Send Thousands More Troops to Middle East

The Pentagon is expected to send thousands of troops from the U.S. Army’s 82nd Airborne Division to the Middle East, Reuters reported. The move would boost U.S. military power as President Donald Trump talks about a possible deal with Tehran to end the war.

Reuters first reported on March 18 that the Trump administration was considering sending more troops, a move that could potentially include an operation inside Iranian soil.

Such a move would add to the risk of a conflict that is already in its fourth week and has rattled global markets. The officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity, did not give details on where the troops would be deployed or when they would arrive in the region.

Regarding this, White House spokeswoman Anna Kelly said, “As we have explained, President Trump always has all military options at his disposal.”

So far, no decision has been made to send troops into Iran itself, one source said, but the move would increase US capabilities for possible future operations in the region.
