The Vatican has released the first photo of Pope Francis since he was hospitalized a month ago.
The photo shows the pope sitting in a wheelchair in front of the altar in a church at Rome’s Gemelli Hospital, where he has been recovering from pneumonia.
Earlier on Sunday, in his message, the Pope said he had gone through a “testing period” as he thanked well-wishers for their prayers, and prayed for peace in “war-torn countries”.
It marked the fifth consecutive Sunday that the Pope has not attended church. The Vatican said earlier this week that an X-ray confirmed an “improvement” in his health, but he still requires hospital treatment.
