The US said it launched what it called “decisive” airstrikes on Houthi targets on Saturday, with President Donald Trump citing the strikes as a response to Houthi attacks on ships in the Red Sea.

Washington said some key Houthi figures were among the dead, but the group has not confirmed this. Houthi leader Abdul Malik al-Houthi said his militia would attack US ships in the Red Sea.

Explaining the increase in the death toll earlier, Houthi health ministry spokesman Anis al-Asbahi posted on X that 53 people had been killed, including “five children and two women”, and that 98 people had been injured.

A father of two, who gave his name as Ahmed, told AFP: “I have been living in Sanaa for 10 years, hearing gunfire throughout the war. By God, I have never experienced anything like this before.”

The Houthis also said there were new US strikes targeting Al Jaouf and Hudaydah early Monday. The US has not yet commented.
