The Ministry of Health has dispatched 36 ambulances to provide comprehensive emergency medical support at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) during the arrival of the body of the late former Prime Minister Raila Amolo Odinga.
According to Medical Services PS Dr. Ouma Oluga, the deployment is part of a coordinated emergency preparedness strategy designed to ensure swift medical response and public safety throughout the solemn national ceremony.

The ambulances have been strategically positioned within and around the airport to deliver rapid assistance in case of any medical incidents among attendees. Each unit is fully equipped with Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Life Support (ALS) systems and staffed with a paramedic, nurse, and driver for effective on-site care and evacuation if needed.
The Ministry said the move is meant to guarantee readiness as thousands gather to witness the return of the revered statesman’s remains.
The deployment features contributions from multiple emergency service providers:
- Kenya Red Cross – 20 ambulances
- St. John Ambulance – 4 ambulances
- Nairobi Disaster Service – 3 ambulances
- Nairobi Emergency Services – 8 ambulances
- Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) – 1 ambulance
Additionally, a Port Health ambulance will remain on standby at JKIA to coordinate medical operations and liaise with other emergency teams.
Dr. Oluga emphasized that the initiative reflects the government’s commitment to maintaining the highest safety and health standards during events of national significance. He also noted that similar preparedness measures are underway in Kisumu and Siaya counties, where further memorial and tribute ceremonies will take place.
The Ministry assured Kenyans that all medical units remain on high alert — a demonstration of both national efficiency and unity as the country mourns one of its most iconic political leaders.
