Police reported that the woman had checked into the lodging on the night of March 21 with her three children. The next day, she went out to buy toothpaste but took longer than expected. When the lodging manager went to check, the room was found unlocked.

Inside, the manager discovered two children sitting on the bed while the third was unconscious. Police confirmed that the deceased was a Grade 4 pupil at Miau Primary School. The boy’s body showed marks on the neck, believed to be from strangulation.

The other two children were unharmed and appeared unaware that their brother had died. The body was taken to the mortuary for postmortem, and the family was contacted for custody pending investigations.

The woman later surrendered at Machakos Police Station, several kilometers from the crime scene, and was detained pending transfer to Makueni for further processing and potential arraignment. Police said investigations are ongoing to determine the motive, and she will undergo psychiatric evaluation as part of the probe.

Separately, in Kipkaren, Nandi County, a 26-year-old man, Bethwel Kiptanii, was found dead with a wound on the left side of his neck. The motive for his death is also under investigation, and his body was taken to the mortuary.

Police noted that murder cases have been rising, often linked to love triangles, land disputes, or failed deals, and are actively working to resolve these cases.
