Gladys Wanga, the Governor of Homa Bay, has announced the relocation of the county headquarters to the Kanyabala location, where an animal feed project has been partially constructed.
The project, initiated by former Governor Cyprian Awiti in August 2015, stalled midway.
Wanga announced that the construction of the new headquarters will be funded by the County Pension Funds (CPF) through a loan.
The move was made due to the factory’s proximity to the Kabunde Air Strip, which Wanga deemed unsuitable due to its potential for bird-attracting accidents. The construction of the new headquarters is expected to be completed by December this year.
The project is expected to expand Homa Bay town to rural areas and increase the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of the town, with locals building rental houses near the county headquarters.
