Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru has strongly condemned the stabbing of Florence Wanjiku, a woman from Nakuru, by her partner, Pastor Elias Njau of the Jesus Crusaders Ministry Church.
The attack took place at their home in Kiamunyi, Rongai Sub-County, on Thursday night.

In a statement, Waiguru called for the immediate capture of Pastor Njau, who left Wanjiku with critical injuries after a domestic altercation, as femicide cases continue to rise. She urged authorities to ensure justice is served and wished Wanjiku a swift recovery.
“I condemn the tragic incident in Nakuru, where a man attacked his wife over a domestic dispute. No matter the disagreement, violence should never be an option. Gender-based violence has no place in our society,” Waiguru stated.
Her comments followed those of President William Ruto, who had just the previous day called for a societal shift in how boys are raised, urging that they be brought up to be responsible and morally upright men.
After the attack, Njau fled the scene, while neighbors intervened to protect Wanjiku’s two children, aged two and ten, whom he allegedly attempted to harm. Wanjiku, who co-invests in real estate with Njau, is now hospitalized under heavy security, with her family fearing further danger.
Police have recorded Wanjiku’s statement, and investigations are ongoing.
The attack occurred just hours after President Ruto had condemned the rising cases of gender-based violence (GBV) and femicide in the country. In response, Nakuru County’s Chief Officer for Gender, Gladys Kamuren, urged the public to remain calm and patient as law enforcement pursues the suspect. She stressed the importance of peaceful conflict resolution, stating, “We now have a woman fighting for her life and a fugitive on the run.”
Senior officials from the Jesus Crusaders Ministry Church have distanced the institution from the incident, reaffirming their commitment to upholding family values.
In his State of the Nation address on Thursday, President Ruto emphasized the need for a collective effort, from leaders to households, to ensure that boys are raised in a way that encourages respect for women and contributes to creating a just, safe, equal, and inclusive society.
